We stayed here for a week and it was the perfect accommodations for our needs. Clean and comfortable and away from the busy strip. We enjoyed having the pool in our backyard. We rented bikes as our means of transportation. You really don't need anything more than that. The island is about a mile in length and Hidden Gen is at one end and the Split at the other. I enjoyed running each morning back and forth and working out by the beautiful pool. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The only thing I didn't like was climbing the ladder everyday since I slept in the loft. Overall, I would most definitely stay here again. Just so you all will know Caye Caulker is not a fancy place. There are no resorts here. You are getting the beach bum life experience without having to sacrifice comfort and cleanliness by staying at Hidden Gen. The food on the island is very good and at a good price. Drinks too are at a good price. Visit Koko King Beach, it's a great swimming beach with a bar and grill and good music. Lots to do there. Thanks for letting us stay at Hidden Gem!
Hidden Gem was fantastic. Having the pool was awesome. We spent more time there than the beach. The home was clean and neat (the only nit was rhe fridge smelled heavily of fish and two boxes of baking soda didn't kill it). Michael and the whole crew were friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.
This property had easy check in and very hospitable hosts. They were able to keep our bags both before and after our checkout time so we could enjoy more of the island. It was wonderful! The bedroom, bathroom, and loft are all nice and clean. I would stay here again.
We just returned from a week at Caye Caulker at a Hidden Gem with our family of 4, two adults and two teens. The owner was quick to respond and answer questions. Being our third visit, we were quite familiar with the area. Michael and Cece are friendly and helpful, always willing to go that extra mile to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. The house is comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed watching the birds on the large front porch, or taking a refreshing dip in the pool after bicycling to town. The various flowers around the home are lovely! Each morning, we walked around the corner, thermos' and coffee cups in hand, and enjoyed the breathtaking view from the dock. We had the delight of watching a stingray swim by on one of these mornings! We find the people, the food and the vibe of Caye Caulker suits us perfectly.
The house is cute and mostly comfortable. The private beach is lovely. The Wifi is exceptional and there is a phone provided for local calls. The property management staff is exceptional, every request was taken care of immediately. They even handled things we didn't know we would need! However, the bed in the master bedroom is an old style innerspring mattress and is as stiff as a board. The property is at the far south end of the island, about 3 blocks from the island airport and it is quite noisy. If you don't ride a bike, the walk to town is about 20-25 minutes depending on the time of day.
We walked into a very clean and cute space on our 4 day visit to Caye Cauker. Michael and Cece were easy to contact even thought we didn't really need anything from them. The kitchen has plates, glasses, silverware, etc. if you cook, you will have to purchase everything including oil, or butter. There is no shampoo. The place is on the furthest side away from most of the restaurants, etc. It's about a 20 minute walk which is fine if it's not raining. The streets get full of puddles. There are taxis easily available at $5 Belize per person ($2.50 US). When we first arrived to the island from the water ferry, a taxi was waiting for us and getting the keys, etc was a breeze. There is also a nice pool right out the back. I'd recommend the Hidden Gem!
This property is truly a "Hidden Gem"! My wife and I have stayed there for two consecutive years because it offers everything we want in a vacation home. Clean, quiet, & convenient! Perfect for families or couples wishing for a "peaceful retreat" from the hectic pace of life. From the $$ perspective, we have been extremely pleased with the value provided by renting this property! Definitely put this property on your radar/short list for your next stay on the Caye (Caulker)! 😍
The house felt like home with all the modern amenities. Since the house isn't on the waters edge, the pool was extremely useful. Great use of space! We would love to come back! My only critic is: the rust stains on the outside of the refrigerator door made it look "dirty, jucky". I know it was clean because I saw it cleaned. Maybe paint the refrigerator door a dark color to hide the rust stains? This is a small detail which unfortunately stuck out like a "sore thumb". Everything else was fantastic!!!! Thanks.
The Hidden Gem exceeded our expectations. This was our first time visiting this beautiful paradise and the Hidden Gem helped make this the perfect vacation. When we travel we usually rent homes making it easier for the budget and being able to control our child's environment. We went with a group of friends and we picked the "Hidden Gem", 1. for the air conditioning 2. the pool 3. because of the great reviews. 4. There is actually a loft so mom and dad can actually have personal space. All of these reasons made the house perfect for us (and for what it's worth-seeing some of the other smaller places our friends stayed at-the Hidden Gem is amazing!). Debbie is great with communication and Michael managing the property is fantastic. The Wi-fi worked great and there was everything you could ask for was available. My kid was in Heaven because the pool was right there and she loved having her own loft. Everything was in working order and Michael was always available if you needed anything (even though we didn't). The Dock is about a block away, but it so beautiful and we loved going to hang out on it and swim in the ocean. I feel like I could keep going on about how amazing this home is, but I hope you visit on your own to experience the island and the Hidden Gem. Thank you Gowie Family for such a beautiful property and sharing it with us. Thank you for making this home so family friendly.
Stayed this past week for 5 nights and really enjoyed ourselves. The kids (7 & 10) loved their separate space sleeping and hanging out in the loft, but the ladder is pretty steep and isn't good for luggage or very small kids or others who can't handle climbing a ladder. All staff (including manager Michael who is a former 400 yard dash Olympian - kids thought that was so cool) were very nice and responsive to any request (e.g., more water delivered immediately and we had a place to store luggage since we arrived many hours prior to check-in). It's about a mile walk to main parts of town, so we rented a golf cart for about $55 USD/day (worth it). Bikes are also available for a small rental fee. Everything was well maintained and the pool was a nice touch. Shower is more of a sprinkle, but that is to be expected as water should be used sparingly. The 20 or so DVDs for us to watch late at nice were a nice and unexpected touch (plus they had some novels), and the WiFi worked great. We didn't cook in very much, but the kitchen had whatever we looked for. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks to the Gowie's! Let us know if you ever sell!
My wife, myself and 2 children (12 & 14) had a wonderful time. The unit is extremely comfortable and clean. The property is in a quiet location, but just a short bike ride from away from anywhere in town. Both Micheal and Dee Dee were very helpful and easy to reach. We stayed only four nights, wish we could have stayed longer.
Everyone was helpful and the house was great. The AC worked well and it was nice to have a washer. The house was clean and in a quiet safe neighborhood. We enjoyed having the pool and pier area to relax in. It would be nice to have a few more kitchen items to allow for cooking, very minimal. I couldn't find a pitcher. Paper towels and a couple of extra rolls of TP would be nice.
My wife, 2 year old daughter and brother-in-law stayed at the Hidden Gem for just over a week in February 2016. The rental was perfect for our needs. The property management staff (Michael, Cici, Victor et al.) Were extremely attentive and take pride in the property that they manage. The rental itself is spacious, clean and has all the kitchen amenities for preparing simple meals. The pool was spectacular and our daughter spent most of her in it! Having an accessible crib, water and beer case delivery made our vacation all that much more enjoyable. We would highly suggest this location for families or a couples getaway and would consider coming back in the near future.
The house is sweet. Simple but everything you need. The staff are amazing and remember your name. It's one of those vacations that you'll remember forever. Caye Calker is vertu small... VERY but has it all. Food is very good and fairly cheap. Southside Pizza is Canadian made and awesome. Hidden Gem is one of those hidden gems that you keep going back and back too.
We stayed at Debbie's Hidden Gem property the 1st week of Feb 2015. Debbie responded to our communications very promptly & made the booking, checking in, & vacating process, very easy for us. It is a very nice & clean property, the house is large enough for 4 people comfortably. We slept in the lower bedroom which has a queen size bed, a nice size closet & a nice view of the pool area. The kitchen has basic cooking and eating amenities. We only found 3 things, which we felt would improve this property. 1:- More kitchen/cooking ware typically found in a home kitchen. 2:- The Queen size bed we slept in, was a typical motel style bed, very hard, and uncomfortable, a simple addition of a 2 inch memory foam matteress topper would make a world of difference & would definitely have earned 5 stars from us. 3:- A floor mop .. The island is made up of sand, and even though we took our shoes off before entering the house, it only took a couple of days and the floor needed cleaning. We couldn't find a floor mop anywhere in the house, & we always keep a clean house, whether it belongs to us, or someone else. Plus we were concerned the sand would scratch the beautiful wood floors, so it was annoying not to have a mop to keep the floor clean. All in all, Hidden Gem is a beautiful property, which is quiet & secluded, we were a little concerned in the beginning because it's close to the airport, but it was really nice to watch the small planes take off & land (occasionally) from the porch while enjoying morning coffee. The runway is only big enough for small gasoline prop planes and they only land and take off occasionally during the day, it kind of adds a "bit of excitement" to the day to watch them :-) We would love to be able to give Hidden Gem 5 stars, but after our 1st stay can only give it 4. We will definatly return and will definatly recommend this property to our friends. Aloha Stewart & Andrea from Maui
This house is very clean well maintained and renovated. All equipment (including air-conditioning) is functioning well. It is well locate in quiet neighborhood, a little out of Caye Caulker downtown but at most 7 minute bicycle ride or 15 minute walk. The pool is very clean and private except for the two houses you share it with. The support staff is very friendly and always on site within 2 minutes when you need them. I definitely recommend it for a family of four or less, just be aware that the children bedroom is on the second floor and you have access via a fairly steep lather which I would not recommend for young children.
Just got back from 8 days at the Hidden Gem. All the reviews are true. Quiet, relaxing, fun, friendly, the accolades go on and on. Michael, CeCe as well as the supporting staff were all great, super friendly and accommodating. From the golf cart taxi waiting for us at the dock to the case of beer in the fridge upon arrival to the bicycle rental, this team can handle it all. The house itself was perfect for us 3. Had all the modern conveniences you would expect and the pool was great after a day snorkeling or riding around the island. They even had a nice little collection of DVDs and books for guests (Uncle Buck was our favorite). The mosquitoes definitely make their presence known so don't forget some bug spray. In town you can also pick up some organic bug spray if you don't want to deal with DEET. Also rent the bikes, makes getting to town and exploring around much easier, not that town is that far or the island is that huge but makes it quicker, especially when the sun is blazing! Restaurant Recommendations: Carribbean Colors Cafe on Front Street - chicken wings to die for, friends loved the coffee as well, we were on the island 8 days and went here 5 times! Stew Chicken lady outside Chans market on middle street - after around 7pm she brings her cart out and offers a large plate of beans, rice, mashed potatoes and stew chicken for $5, you must have this...multiple times Patty guy walking around the Split - most likely if you go to the Split during the day you'll see a guy walking around with a styrofoam chest, inside he has vegetarian and curry chicken patties (similar to a fryjack but baked), homemade, amazingly tasty and cheap Pasta Per Caso - Go here, pick a vegetarian or meat dish and enjoy, nothing else needs to be said, also only open Sunday to Thursday so don't miss out! Attraction Recommendation: Stressless Tours across the street from Roses (also a good restaurant), Keith and Jo will take great care of you no matter your level of expertise in the water, they keep their group size low and show a lot of respect for the ocean, highly recommended! Tell them Lilo sent you!
Our experience overall was wonderful at the Hidden Gem. CeCe and Michael were there in 5 minutes whenever we needed anything. We rode bikes into the 1/2 mile ride into town 2-3 times a day and the food at the restaurants were great. The house foliage surround the property including the pool is beautiful. When visiting Caye Caulker for a week, you will need a can of mosquito spray and a can of suntan lotion. This is a must! They light Mosquito Coils around the propert and the restaurants to help but it's always good to put more on while riding the bikes. The A/C in the house is great. The house pool is shared by 3 other rentals and it was never a problem except the last two days when a little girl and her parents swam at 7am and we could hear her giggle screaming. Not too big of a deal but we were still sleeping. F you get an opportunity take the water taxi to San Pedro, it was a nice island as well. Currently the Belizean currency is 2:1 the U.S. dollar at $20 equals $40 Belizean dollars. All restaurants and stores were very helpful and accommodating when changing our currency to theirs. Stores are a little higher priced for most foods and you can find just about anything that you find here. Overall it was a great experience. Hope my review helps others planning a trip to Caye Caulker Island and to stay at the Hidden Gem. By the way, Debbie the owner who lives in Colorado was very easy to reach and great to work with. Thank you Debbie!
My family of three recently stayed at Hidden Gem. This was our first trip to Caye Caulker. The property pictures and description are accurate. What you don't see on line? Well, the pool is surrounded by rich foliage and you can hear the birds all day. The pool also provides both sun and shade so the choice is yours. The beautiful ocean palapas is about a 3 minute stroll. We enjoyed the shade there, the easy access, and the wonderful breeze. Michael is a gem himself. He was always responsive with any question we had or issue that came up. For example, my son's bike had a VERY loud squeak. I tried to fix it with dishsoap, but that did not help. I emailed Michael and explained that we were going snorkeling, but maybe we could swap the bike out later. When we returned, a new bike was waiting. We were able to get ice cold beer in the fridge upon our arrival and we enjoyed the water provided. We never had issues with wifi. It worked even by the pool. While the pool and palapas are shared, we had most to ourselves even though the properties were all rented out. Debbie had great communication and lots of suggestions. We cooked our own breakfast but bought cinnamon rolls from Glenda's and heated them each morning....yummy! We always felt safe riding our bikes at all hours. The people on the island are very friendly. We will be back, probably next year for spring break. Just a great place.
Just returned from a wonderful week at Hidden Gem. The pictures and description are very accurate. The property owner was very responsive to all of our questions and provided lots of useful information. Michael, the property manager, was also very helpful both before and during our visit. We had absolutely no issues while there: WIFI worked the whole time, air conditioning was quiet and cool, all kitchen appliances worked well and there were plenty of dishes, pots and pans etc. We didn't use the second bedroom, but the stairs (really a ladder) leading up to it are quite steep and wouldn't be suitable for small kids. The grounds were beautiful and very well maintained. The swimming pool was very nice, and even though we shared it with two other cabins, we usually had it all to ourselves. We recommend renting bikes, which are located right under the Hidden Gem, as the cabin is at the southern end of the island (next to the airport) and there are no restaurants, bars, stores within about 1/2 mile. We enjoy riding bikes, and it is much quicker (and cooler) than walking. Our main activity is snorkeling and we used several different snorkel tour operators, they are all very good and the guides were all very careful to preserve the coral. We prefer to snorkel from shore, but except for the area around the split, that just isn't possible. We did a sunset sail with Liberty and that was a fun evening--beer, rum punch and a great shrimp ceviche provided. We cooked most of our dinners at the Hidden Gem, but really enjoyed our dinner and sunset view at the Little Kitchen and highly recommend Glenda's for breakfast and her great cinnamon rolls. There are several grocery stores on Caulker, we liked the Chinese Market on Middle Street. It is well stocked and had a very useful spice section with small packets of spices just perfect for seasoning small meals at home. We bought a Red Snapper from a local fisherman at the Co-op (west end of island, just west of power plant) and it was awesome. The fishermen show up around 230 or 3PM. In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed our vacation on Cay Caulker, weather was beautiful, the island is quiet and peaceful, the locals are friendly and there are plenty of things to do. It was our first time in Belize, next time we will shorten our stay on Caulker and spend some time on the main land.
This is our second visit to Hidden Gem. Once again, Michael was great, the owner was great, the landscaping was great, the house was a little worn in place but overall excellent. The owner seems really on the ball so I'm sure most small issues will be worked out in short order. What issues, you ask? Really small. Like the wifi being out more than in (cable companies are the same everywhere) and the walls needing some patching and a coat of paint. One small suggestion, the housekeeper needs to make sure there are things like paper towels and toilet paper before people arrive. With all that said, the house and pool are great. You'll be really happy if you stay here. FYI, the pool is connected to this house and if the people from the other two houses are using the pool you'll hear it in the bedroom. If that bothers you, reserve one of the other two houses. And the ladder leading to the two twin beds is not for small children. It's a climb. Enjoy!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this home. Everything you could possibly need and more. Michael was always available for any questions or supplies. Pool and outside deck were a great addition to our stay. Home is in great shape and a nice location away from all the bustle of town. An easy bike ride to all the shops and restaurants. Highly recommend!
We stayed at Hidden Gem early December for a second time, having also been there in August, 2013. There are a lot of choices on CC, however we went back because of the location, and the fact that the house has a beautiful pool and patio area. On this year's trip we flew to the island on Tropic Air and walked the block and a half to the house. So quick and easy! The manager Michael is a text or phone call away for anything, and he is usually just around the corner. His wife and sister have a beautiful new, little bar on the next street over which is a nice place to stop on your way into the village. A nice front porch, lush foliage and pretty interior with fully equipped kitchen are other features we love about Hidden Gem.
We had such a wonderful relaxing time! Our kids loved the loft and the pool was the perfect cool down in the heat of the day. Michael was so helpful and Nick, the taxi driver was very informative. The house is just perfectly stocked with everything you need to make meals, coffee etc. We will definitely keep the Hidden Gem in mind for our next family vacation to Caye Caulker!
The house was great, comfortable bed and pillows. It also had a 6 hole burner stove, great kitchen. Wow, we love the pool too. There are bicycles to rent, but worth it. That is the way to get around the island. The Manager Michael, was warm and friendly and responded to everything we needed. I recommend this house, very lovely.
Quite nice! We loved staying here. Lived up to its description and our expectations. We didn't make much use of the pier because of lack of any shelter from the sun. Note the pool is shared among three villas. Bikes are a necessity with everything within a 5 minute ride. The owner was very helpful with our pre-visit questions. Caye Caulker The sun is relentless! Cover up and/or slather on the sunscreen. Recommend applying bug repellant also. Most of the restaurants we used accepted credit cards but you'll probably need cash for your snorkel tours. Beware of Tropic Air and leave plenty of time for connections when leaving. Our flight from Caye Caulker to Belize City made an unscheduled stop at San Pedro turning what should have been a ten minute jaunt into 50 minutes. Don't worry too much about arrivals as they'll get you on the next plane. Restaurants There are quite a lot of small locally owned restaurants and cafes. Here are some we tried and liked. Pasta Per Caso Aladdins Caye Caulker Bakery - Regular baked goods plus flat breads and ham and cheese rolls The Little Kitchen - Don't let the approach to the place deter you. Great place to watch the sunset. Amor y cafe - The place for breakfast. Syd's - Enclosed patio means no breeze. Rose's Bar & Grill - Pricey Pizza Caulker Rainbow Grill Snorkeling We used Caye Caulker Reef Friendly Tours for a half day tour of the local reef and longer tour of the Hol Chan Reserve, the wreck, and Shark Alley. Our guide Zac is very experienced and took great care of us. We liked his regard for the reef. The shop is located on Front Street near the water taxi. Belize We also visited the Pine Ridge in the interior and the Belize zoo near Belmopan. There are lots of small resorts in the Pine Ridge. The scenery there is spectacular and the many water falls and rivers make for delightful swimming.
After a gruelling 12 hour trip (the Tropic Air flight was a relief) we were greeted at the airstrip by our friend who said "no taxi we will walk". Imagine our relief when we were home in half a city block. The house was very pretty, functional (even with 5 women and one bathroom). Within 20 minutes we were refreshed by a Belikans and walked off to town. There is so much to look at in such a small place we were on overload. Dinner at Franny's was excellent and we happily wandered home to enjoy the porch and of course a few more Belikans. The next day we found our biking legs and we were off! The street system is easy to remember-if you can look up from the street to see where you are. We had rain and found the roads became slippery and pot holed. Our solution was to take the beach and avoid the mud. The town and locals were lovely and very welcoming. We ate at home two meals in two weeks. The food was excellent at every stop. Mmmm to the Fryjacks and burritos, Pizza Caulkers, Terry's and My Little Kitchen. Michael was outstanding. Don't know how many mornings he would wake up to an email from us and delivered our needs before lunch. Hidden Gem is perfect and will see me again. PS I was the bug magnet for the group and found a great bug spray in the grocery store. Small irritant for all the relaxation I achieved. Well done Hidden Gem owners and Michael is priceless!
Overall a very pleasant stay at the Hidden Gem - all amenities as described. Michael (the property manager) was very pleasant and responsive. Property was very clean and the pool was great for the kids. A few recommendations and comments. House is a bit small, but was good for our family of 4, you should include the size of the property in your description. The house could use more sitting/couches for relaxing inside. The location is next to the airport which is very convenient but a long walk into the main town or the split (beach). However, the bikes that were provided were great and used every day. This was a very nice amenity to get around the island and explore. Owners and property manager were easy to get a hold of and promptly answer all of our questions. We also recommend lots of bug repellant. The tiny mosquitos are a killer, we all got multiple bites. Syds and Meldy's restaurants are a must. Great food. Took the boat to San Pedro for the day and rented a golf cart for a few hours. We went to Coco Beach Resort and hung at the beach. Drove all around town and got to see the sites. Took the boat back to the main land on our departure and it rained on the way. Got soaked, but overall a great experience. We definitely recommend the Hidden Gem and will be back soon. Thanks!
Our family of 4 stayed here for a week absolutely loved this house. There are 3 houses next to each other all of which are the nicest on the island. The pool was a perfect way to cool down after a day of fishing or snorkeling. Don't rent a golf cart here, the only way to go is by bike. The only thing I will point out is that the loft is only accessible by ladder, so if your 20 somethings like to hit the bars for rum punch, it can get a little tricky. Michael the caretaker of the property is great, and will be at your door in 3 min if you need anything. Great Guy!!! So many great places to eat. Breakfast at the bait shop on middle street, cheap and good, anything from the bakery on middle was great. The fruit stand by the bait shop and bank had the best prices and the best fresh squeezed orange or watermelon juice. Roses cooked the fish we caught and grilled it to perfection. Probably the only bad meal we had was at Wish Willys overpriced and the guy was arrogant. Took our fishing and snorkeling tours with Tsunami. All trips were great and they were willing to negotiate prices. Just a perfect trip. Can't wait to return.
We stayed at the Hidden Gem during our kids' Spring Break and had a wonderful experience. Debbie was great with email communication. When we arrived, Michael was waiting for us at the water taxi dock. We felt very well taken care of. The house is beautiful and the surrounding property is lovely as well. The pool was a must have for us so this home worked out perfectly for our family. We enjoyed riding the bikes all over the island. The house is a short ride from the heart of town. It's right next to the little airport but that is not a problem at all. As a matter of fact it was fun to see the planes come in and take off. The flights were within reasonable waking hours and not very frequent. The fact that there are no cars on the island is awesome! We enjoyed dinner at Rose's Grill, Enjoy, Tropical Paradiso, and Wish Willy's. We ate lunches from the smaller stands along the road. The last day we ate at Belita's (a little blue hole in the wall on front street) which is new and the food was great and super affordable. We also got lunch one day at the Budgetman...he is a fun character with tasty food. We bought tamales from a street vendor and meat pies and banana bread from another guy. Amor Cafe is another yummy place to eat. We often went to the bakery in the morning and bought fresh fruit at the fruit stands to make smoothies. We went on two snorkeling trips, one with Juni on his sailboat and one with Ras Creek on his Rastafarian boat that you can find at the Split. Both trips were amazing! Some days we just swam at the Split and at the pool. We had a really wonderful vacation. I'm so glad we stayed at the Hidden Gem.
Thank you very much for taking time out of your schedule to review our home. We are very pleased that you enjoyed the island of Caye Caulker and The Hidden Gem. Please come back for another visit someday.
My family rented the Hidden Gem on a recent trip to Belize. The island of Caye Caulker was amazing, and we felt the Hidden Gem was a perfect place to call 'home' during our trip. It is located just a few blocks from the small downtown area. It took less than 5 minutes to ride anywhere on the bikes that we rented thru Hidden Gem, and about 10 minutes if you wanted to walk. The newly built home was well equipped: kids movies, coffee maker, pots/pans, dishsoap, salt/pepper...several things handy for those wanting to do a little cooking. The manager met us at the water taxi dock and was very accomodating. He recommended a restaurant to us that was just delicious. Fresh catch of the day...YUM! The home had wifi and a lovely pool. We brought our own beach towels, but found a few spare towels in the closet. There was a safe for valuables, too. The Hidden Gem is located on a quiet street and you can take a little trail to a private beach or bike past the tiny airport to see the other side of the island. We spotted lots of blue crabs on that trail and saw some fabulous scenery. I would say that it was one of the nicest places to stay on the island. We were able to cook a few meals ourselves and even do some laundry, which came in really handy, as this was only our first stop in Belize. I can't think of one negative thing to say about the rental...everything was superb. Wish we were still in Caye Caulker sitting on the porch of the Hidden Gem!
It is near the little airport but this does not cause a bother as they are only Cessna Caravans during daylight and you only hear them leave. The single beds are up a solid ladder on a mezzanine so not suitable for those with a fear of heights or young children. The pool is great, the kids spent hours in it. Caye Caulker's beaches aren't plentiful but the seabreeze is a Godsend. The manager was wonderful. A/C was a great advantage as the first 2 nights were HOT! Having a clothes line and a washer were fabulous! Suggestion BYO HE laundry detergent as it is expensive at the store. Biking to the shops, The Split and restaurants, anywhere was easy. When the plants grow a bit more on the 2 sides of the property, it will be more private. The back fence is very private. The place was clean and well stocked with the necessary items for cooking your own food and opening your own beer. Great location, modern building, would recommend to family with kids older than about 6. Don't be afraid to try the streetside and peddling vendors. We picked up the most exquisite large slices of lemon meringue pie from the man that sells mini meat pies to the kids at school for recess. The family business advertises meat pies on the tiny building. Thanks Debbie for letting us use your property. Snorkelling at the split was fun (we took our own snorkel gear). We did Carlos' reef tour for half day. Our guide Rocky was very informative and flexible with us. Enough for my 8 year old and for me who gets sea sick. Juni was highly recommended but it was a whole daytrip on a sailing boat. Advice for when leaving the country, the departure fees are different ($US39.50) at the airport to crossing the border to Guatemala ($BZ37.50). Not sure about the cost to cross to Chetumal. Nick the taxi (golf cart)driver arranged for Louis to pick us up in Belize city (Yes they tip each other) $US30 to the airport for us 4. Again another great experience.
Debbie was extremely prompt in her email replies and shared valuable information with us. We loved the pool, which is big, clean, well furnished with deck chairs and lounges. I would recommend this property to anyone. The house is very new and all the appliances, AC, lights and fans worked perfectly. We loved the "new" bikes which added so much to our island living. Thank you!
First, the house. Brand new with everything you need. The pool is fantastic. The porch is great as the sun sets. Even the bikes are new. It sits on one of the best streets on the island just a 5 minute bike ride to town. Second, about Michael the property manager. You can't ask for better. As nice as could be and he knows the island inside and out. Want to know where to meet the fisherman to pick up something for the BBQ?…he knows. Want to know about restaurants?…he knows. Ride the bike over glass and need a flat fixed…like me…no problem. He keeps the property like it's his own home. Third, the island. Don't rent a golf cart, it's a waste of money. A bicycle is the way to go. Changs and China Town supermarkets have everything you need. People swim at the split, which can be a little busy for me, so Michael recommended a dock near the cemetery. Quiet. Not very deep. A ladder that you can use to climb in. Perfect. If you are adventurous, ride your bike around the entire South side of the island, it's the Caye Caulker before people showed up. Fourth, don't leave.
Thank you for your kind review! It was really fantastic having you both as guest! We are happy that you enjoyed the house and the island. Yes, we agree with you that Michael is the "icing on the cake"...Hope to see you next year!
Great little place. Easy to get around, especially with the hurricane bicycles. Really enjoyed our stay and Michael was a great property manager. Pool was nice and accomidations were comfortable. Only one comment - don't try to make the water taxi if you are on the 430PM flight. Other than that fiasco, we really enjoyed our time in Belize and wished we had spent a few more nights at the Hidden Gem in Caye Caulker!
This was my first vacation to Caye Caulker and it was incredible. The reef is unbelievable! We found some wonderful places to eat and drink that were very reasonable. The house was wonderful, everything is brand new, very clean, and comfortable. We spent a lot of time in the swimming pool just relaxing. The home is a nice short bike ride from town and in the nicer area, quiet and peaceful. We will definitely be back, and I hope this house is available when we do...I highly recommend this home.
The house is literally located right next to the airport. It is brand new and beautiful. The private pool in the back is a perfect outdoor oasis and relaxation hot spot. We enjoyed the amenities of the house to include updated kitchen, brand new washer, and comfortable bed. The house also has 60+ channels of cable to stay connected should you choose. I also highly recommend renting bikes. Our one year old son sat in the front basket and my husband and I cruised around the island for hours. You do not need a golf cart if you have the bikes. Eating out can be a little expensive, so we cooked breakfast each morning. We had a great stay and would highly recommend this house.
